As a thank you for your most generous donation to the Thespian's Benevolent Fund, Mr Michael Penz, invites you to a fun-filled weekend of murder (not really) and good food. The weekend will be hosted by Kate Penz’s, ‘Murder Mystery and Heritage Company’.

The Penz's have hired the Dell House private country hotel in Malvern and prepared a "Steampunk" Victorian Murder Mystery to be performed by The Company on the Friday evening and a black tie dinner on the Saturday.

Fear not, no actual murders will take place!

Friday 13th - Sunday 15th September 2024

Assembled group of 16 actors and guests, dressed smartly with some in 1920s costume.

It's 1922 and exactly one year on from the sudden and unexplained death of local millionaire, Edward Dell. His relatives are gathering at the family home to celebrate his life, however, a friendly intimate celebration seems to be far from their minds as secrets and resentments are unearthed.

Will everyone survive the weekend, or will death once again rear its ugly head?

Details

Each weekend is a fully interactive, live-action immersive theatre experience that runs from Friday evening through to Saturday night. (Don't be confused by the "Friday evening" mystery in 'Sting' - that's just part of the whole weekend mystery).

The experienced actors will be ‘in character’ for the entire weekend and will interact with the guests freely. There is no ‘stage’ – the characters are around and among the guests throughout. The plot, clues and motives are revealed as the weekend progresses. There will be clues left around to find, and events to keep an eye on over the weekend.

One thing that guests can be assured of is that the event will be performed entirely by the experienced cast of Death On Demand. No guest is asked or expected to play a main role – other than detective! However, guests are welcome to dress up which really adds to the fun.

After breakfast on Sunday there's a chance to chat with the actors about the plot.

Two nights accommodation at the Dell House
The Murder Mystery running from Friday evening through to Saturday evening, whilst you relax in the glorious surroundings of the Dell House.
Friday arrival from 4pm. Drinks† and canapes at 6pm followed by a simple sit-down meal (e.g. flans, seasonal veg, and a pudding).
Saturday cooked breakfast and a 'bread, cheese & salad' lunch
Saturday morning, between breakfast and lunch, will be free time when you don't need to be on site.

† Non-alcoholic drinks provided over the weekend. You are welcome to bring your own alcoholic drinks if you wish.

Accommodation

All the accommodation is on a B&B basis regardless of whether you are in a B&B room or one of the apartments. We will be using the B&B rooms and the Butler's ground floor apartment.

The Coach House cottage is also available to book for these weekends. This is particularly suitable if you'd like to come with friends and share the cottage, perhaps as part of a longer, self-catering, holiday in the Malverns.

When booking a single or double room, the choice of room will be ours unless you pay the supplement (see below) to make your own selection (subject to availability). In general, where we have a choice we will give larger rooms to those who booked first.

Notes: The Red Room, Butler's and Coach House may not be booked for a 'single person' booking. (Blue and Green rooms may be, subject to the supplement above). If we choose to accommodate a single person in a double room or an apartment, the price is that of an standard single-room booking.

How do I book?

Email or phone us to check availability. To confirm a booking we require a non-refundable deposit of £150 per person please. The remainder will be due a month before the event. We can take credit/debit card or bank transfer.

FAQ

Are there any Non-Resident places?

Sorry, no. The nature of the performance means that you will need to be here except for Saturday morning as, for example, things may happen at breakfast and late in the evening.

Is there a Reserve / Waiting List?

Yes. Even if a weekend is marked up as fully booked it is worth getting in touch with us as guests do occasionally have to cancel at relatively short notice.

Are Children Allowed?

The Murder Mystery is recommended for 16+. The content can be risqué in its nature at times. At least one member of every booking must be an adult (over 18). Price is per person regardless of age.

Are Dogs Allowed?

Both the Butler's apartment and the Coach House can accommodate dogs. However, please note they will not be allowed into the main part of the B&B (assistance dogs excepted, of course).

Can I book an exclusive weekend for my family / friends?

This is possible (and has already been done) but is clearly subject to availability of the B&B and the Death On Demand company.

In practical terms you would need a group of at least 8 people. 10-12 people is the optimum for the experience and cost effectiveness though may be possible to accommodate one or two more.

What are the Cancellation Terms?

Our B&B Terms and conditions apply to all attendees.

Strictly speaking, the full cancellation terms apply and in particular the deposit is non-refundable. However, informally, we tend to use the following approach:

Anyone who simply changes their plans, simply loses their deposit.
If anyone is forced to cancel through illness, covid isolation, etc. and if (and only if) we would end up gaining by retaining deposits, we will normally offer a credit against future bookings.

If we have to cancel the event we will offer a full refund.

If any one Murder Mystery Weekend does not reach the minimum of 8 guests, the weekend may be cancelled by us. In these circumstances we would either offer a full refund or, if you'd like to come for a stay anyway, refund the Murder Mystery part of the cost.

Is there parking?

Yes, we have a sizeable car park. You will need to park neatly to fit everyone in but that's always worked so far.
